Australian govt slams hoax tsunami email

The Australian government is investigating a hoax email
warning of an impending tsunami bound for Japan.
Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said the email, claiming to be from the
Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii, suggested an earthquake had
occurred and a tsunami was approaching Japan.
Mr Ruddock said the government would request the removal of a website link
which was thought to be responsible for the emails.
The link was understood to lead to a
Sydney company, he said.
The hoax email was in a form similar to official earthquake and tsunami
warnings, Mr Ruddock said.
"This may be an irresponsible joke, but it is totally inappropriate because
some people may become alarmed," he said in a statement.
"I can assure Australians that no such earthquake has occurred. We have now
alerted the relevant authorities who can investigative the hoax warning."
Mr Ruddock said the only organisation with authority to disseminate tsunami
warnings was the Bureau of Meteorology.

hour, 5 minutes & 23 seconds apart.
It's quite an astronomical
coincidence of timing, since our OTO exposé was first published almost two
years ago, and this was the first we'd heard from them.
